A New Phone

Post by 75X11 on Fri Nov 28, 2014 10:26 pm

Circumstances at work have forced me to get a phone that I can use in lieu of my laptop for internet access. I'm finally getting a phone that was introduced within the last 2 years. Man, they are pricey. It'll take a few days to get it and set it up so I may not be on here as often as I was on work nights.

Android, a Samsung Galaxy S4. I've heard a lot of good reports on them.

I couldn't run it if I had one. Good luck.

Well, the phone arrived today. About 2 hours before I expected it to get here, I got a message from the seller telling me he had shipped me someone else's phone. I have to return or forward that one and mine will be sent immediately. So there.

So is this a used unit from eBay or a 3rd party refurbished?

Just curious.

As an added bonus, my home internet wireless modem crapped out after about 7 years on the air. The provider is sending out a new one at a nominal fee. I am operating on a USB modem on my pc now.

I finally got the phone and have gotten it set up with the carrier. The agent had a used "otterbox" housing for it and I got it just in case. Justin struck this morning and the phone bounced twice and was undamaged. My clear modem also came and it and my home phone are up and running. This post is from the smartphone.

On my PC and laptop, I use Firefox and when they new and improved the browser, they added a feature that will migrate ones' bookmarks to other devices one uses with Firefox. It has worked pretty well with my phone.

I've posted from a phone in the past and the mobile view isn't all that great. I just switch it back to normal view. I have an iPhone and was able to incorporate all my bookmarks and browsing history from Google Chrome via an iCloud add on for chrome. It's a nice feature. By the way you were very wise for choosing a factory refurbished phone over a seller refurbished or used phone. Not only are you not paying an outrageous price, but you know you are getting a good phone with a good warranty(usually) and you are buying from a company that usually only deals in phones, not some random seller. I've bought my share of phones off of eBay over the past few years.

Thanks. I get my phones on Ebay too, as I have used prepaid providers for nearly 20 years and wanted to continue with this unit. If you can research and choose carefully you can get a decent deal. I get chided for not getting the ultra low priced phone from a provider but when they want to know how long I have to keep "the plan", I tell them there is none. I also prefer the classic TRF view.
