Re: It's Getting Cold Out

The high tomorrow for here is supposed to be 55 degrees. It is only 41 here now. We just went outside and covered up our bougainvillas and the citrus trees. The weather babe is talking about light frost here tonight. This is fairly typical for this area this time of the year. We are far enough out of the big city that the asphalt and concrete is not around to hold in the heat. It gets chilly out here in the desert.

When I worked in the desert in Utah, the pronghorn antelope would come up on the asphalt side roads to sleep and soak up the heat from the pavement at night. Quite a surprise driving up on them at 60MPH in the early morning darkness. affraid

I just took the mutts for a stroll and was grateful for long pants. I would need my insulated flip flops today for sure. It is right down nippy here this afternoon. There is a little breeze coming out of the north that is pretty chilly.

It seems to be around the same temp here as there. I'm glad I've got the leaves up, I don't like to get hot while it's cold and chill with my jacket off.

It's warmer in Missouri that it is here, according to the Springfield weather babe. Shocked

BRRRR! The local weather babe just said that the high on Thursday is only going to be 50. And that is at Sky Harbor, so it will be colder than that out here. We have had our bougainvillas and citrus covered for two days. It is supposed to rain Wednesday. We gotta uncover for the rain, then cover after it stops. Sedona is supposed to get 7-10" of snow during that time. Snow level down to 2000 feet, which means there should be snow on the Superstition Mountains. Jerry, do you have your tractor out ready to push snow?

A high of 50 is pretty chilly for around here. Our pipes are exposed. The vegetation is not cold hardy many times. Bouganvillas will not be killed by frost necessarily, but it nips the leaves and turns the pretty red blooms black and then they fall off. The vegetation has to be cut back, then it comes back when it warms up. Citrus does not like cold at all. Ours are still babies, so we need to cover them. This will only last about a week, then I can brag about how nice it is. January is car show month and the weather for that is always nice. Why they still build homes in the 21st Century with exposed water pipes, I'll never know. Our pipes are in the attic instead of the floor. The house is built on a concrete slab, right on the ground. If it gets really cold at night, the pipes in the attic can freeze than make a mess in the house. I have never seen it that cold in all the years I have been here, but it COULD happen. Two years ago, the house across the street from us froze. It made a big mess.

No. Sympathy.

Smile

Tomorrow hi temp is forecasted to be 10*F

With the wind factored in blowing across the new blanket of snow, I don't even want to think about the windchill....

WC, we are at our condo in So. Cal right now.  Planning on returning to Sedona around the 5th of Jan.  Dang, I hate to miss the snow we get so seldom!  Thanks for the weather update.  I can't recall in the 13 years we have lived there ever getting more than perhaps 5 inches or so a couple of times!  I will have to have our neighbor take some pictures.

From what the weather babe says, it's not too warm in So.Cal right now, either. I would loan you my tractor, but it is back in the Midwest where it is warm, in the garage.

Mix of sun and cloud here today. However, the temps took a real big drop over night. Minus 12 C but the 60 kmh winds here make it feel like -25. Hard keeping the heat in the house. 8c)

Well, Jerry, now the weather babe says Sedona is only gonna get 3"-7" of snow. She also said they might see snow in Scottsdale and Fountain Hills. And environs north and northwest of town. Of course, since it never snows in Phoenix, they call what falls "grapple." Wonder if Paradise Valley has a "grappleplow?"

Let's see. 32 degrees Fahrenheit is 0 degrees Centigrade or Celcius or whatever is the current terminology. -12C would be between 15 and 20 degrees Fahrenheit, would it not? That's pretty nippy. That is good wood cutting weather, out of the wind, of course.

It is only 46 degrees here in the heat of the day. The sun is warm, but in the shade it's not.

You aren't getting your moneys' worth out of Arizona when we can beat your temps here. We are getting rain along with the meh weather. I can't figure the robins that only show up when the temp is below 40. What are they finding out in that cold?

Our bouganvillas got bit, regardless of the fact that I covered them faithfully.  It looks like Morticia Addams around here, with all the black flowers. The weather babe says it is supposed to be nearly 70 here today, so winter is officially over for 2015.  Barrett-Jackson is in two weeks and the weather is ALWAYS gorgeous for that.  I have to pet and polish the old Buick for that event.  There will be over 1700 cars for that little "doin's" at the Pavillions in Scottsdale.

All that is left of winter is a bunch of soggy, half-frozen blankets that I will have to wash and get ready for next year.  Rolling Eyes

Our rain is starting to let up now. The temps will go down now as the blankets (rain clouds) come off.
