Dating "GE Tubes: Essential Characteristics"

Post by Dale H. Cook on Sat Oct 18, 2014 11:48 am

Perhaps the third most-used receiving tube manual (after the RCA and Sylvania manuals) is "GE Tubes: Essential Characteristics." I have two editions - ETR-15E and ETR-15G. Have any of you been able to determine the publication dates for any of the Essential Characteristics manuals? If not I will just assign approximate dates to them based upon the most recent tube types that each contains.

Scott Frankland, in his "Vacuum Tube Electronics: Reviews of the Major Texts" (1998), assigned 1964 to Essential Characteristics, and I have sent him an email asking the basis of that attribution.

Dale,

I'll see if I have any. Here's a link showing (okay, it's not just tubes), but maybe will add a piece to the puzzle.

1962, 9th edition. Zoom in and in the corner it has the catalog/series number.

Thanks - that is ETR-15J and between your information and the listing you pointed to that nails down that piece of the puzzle.
