The Cost Of Inflation

Post by 75X11 on Sun Sep 14, 2014 7:43 pm

Just got done doing surgery in my tire pump I got for Christmas in 1993. It wouldn't start when switched on, so I pulled the motor apart and buffed the armature contacts and lubed it throughout. That was after pricing new ones that looked like prizes out of a crackerjack box. I hope it can last a few more years.

I try and repair most everything I own. Most new things today cost more while quality is down. I believe many items I have will last longer after repair than an equivalent new item.

The motor driving it is at least as big as my trucks' windshield wiper motor and the cylinder has about a 1.5 in. bore. I just used it on the truck tires and it hums right along!

Most of us on TRF tend to be fixers rather than replacers, or we would not be in this hobby.
