supreme analyzer

Post by willy3486 on Tue Sep 09, 2014 11:07 am

I just bought a load of stuff. In it I got a supreme analyzer 551. I was wondering if anyone had ever used one. I am thinking it is not a tube tester per se but a piece to put in a circuit to test voltages under power. Does this sound correct? I also checked out Steve Johnsons Surpreme site as well. Would this be a piece actually worth restoring?

Sorry about that. I had been at the funeral home last night and didn't get to post them on photobucket. Here is a picture below. From what I read I do believe it is used to do in circuit tests. I do need some info on its use and Steve Johnson's site I don't think has any on it. I have grown to like it. I think I will restore it.

I guess Supreme Products are like babies and puppies. People just like their looks so much they like to have them around and play with them.

To me its the enjoyment of taking something that junk and fixing it up many times. I have fixed some radios that would be better suited for parts. But fixing those tough dogs will help a persons skills. On this if it can be of use it would be nice.

Yes - the 551 is a set analyzer (aka set tester), used to measure operating conditions at a tube.

One of these days I need to get around to scanning and posting "Radio Set Analyzers and How to Use Them," by L. Van der Mel (New York: Gernsback Publications, Inc., 1931). It was the first publication in the Gernsback Radio Library.
