Hook Up Wire

Post by Doug Burskey on Mon Jun 30, 2014 9:49 pm

I found a source of hook up wire that's suitable for use in vacuum tube electronics. While it's not  the cloth covered wire found in a lot of vintage radios, it might be useful in replacing dried up rubber covered wire or building a tube amp. It is type AWM/MTW  rated for 600 volt gauges from 22 to 12 and in different colors. Very high quality and made in the USA. Automotive grade wire is also available.

I'll let the web site do the talking.   www.wirebarn.com

That's a nice variety of colors. A useful site, indeed! Thanks!

Wire Barn also sells on EBay that's where I found them and there web site. The wire they sell is MUCH BETTER than that stuff that Harbor Freight sells or Radio Shack for that matter!

I just wanted to say Thank You for posting this as well as a follow -up. As an old car enthusiast and electrical "customizer" I ordered a multi-colored pack of automotive GXL wire from them. Appears to be good product and a well run place. I received my package Friday via USPS priority shipping (that was the only method they allow apparently when you order online via their site). Seemed well packed and as-described.

I'll have to try their high voltage rated wire next.

Just thought I'd share.

Thanks, I will have to look into them. I work on computers for a living and I save the wire from old power supplies. I have a lot of Dell stuff come through and they seem to use good wire in their power supplies.

I have used the MTW wire to replace the rotten rubber insulated wire on a Zenith with the Radiorgan tone control buttons. To me the stuff from Radio Shack is not suitable replacement for that rubber insulated wire. I was more than happy to share the Wire Barn web site.
