Thinking Of A New Computer

Post by 75X11 on Fri Jun 13, 2014 6:41 pm

I have been looking for a new desktop and have been considering what we use at work. These have held up pretty well and out of about 15 of them in constant use in our department, only one has required service so far. I can get one a couple hundred cheaper than the one shown. Any opinions?

Look at their Refurbished ones, One was $208 has Dual processor, Has 4 gigs of Memory, and a 750Gig Hard drive. Where the one you show is only 2gigs of memory, a quad processor (which is better for graphics games) but only 320 Gig of Hard Drive space.
Shoot you could buy two of the refurbished and use one as a server.

Well I finally ordered one. I wanted to get with a 64 bit os as I have some new items that require it. Now I have 3 weeks after getting it to decide whether I want a service plan. I have had need to use them twice, both with a PC and a laptop. Here is the unit.

I set it up this weekend. It's a good thing I have windows 7 at work, it has made it relatively easy to get going with this unit. and this panel monitor has really cleared the desk. I have been spooning the files over from the old unit to this one using a thumb drive. Now to find out how I will get rid of the old monitor and my 19" color tv.

I use a old XP computer as music server for my transmitter and to hold various automotive related files/photos(dunno why I'm saying old, this box isn't that much newer and runs XP)... Have at least a half dozen others as backups, had to start turning down the freebes... Actually the one running is a backup, P/S dumped on main unit, I repl that but have never put it back in service...

Here's the system up and running using the 6BK7/6GY6 Tx, scope monitors modulation waveform, also has a freq counter to keep tabs out going carrier... They generally are not on so the meter on top of transmitter monitors RF level, it's nothing more than a 50ua meter with a coil of wire and detector diode attached...

The second monitor is just for checking out systems, probably pull it down soon and repl with a curb pickup flatscreen I replaced a couple caps in...

That is a nice setup. I would try to keep mine if space were not at a premium. I would like to donate them to get the tax writeoff.
