Does anyone used or collect these VOM's?

I have a little pocket-sized Micronta VOM that the wife's son bought to use on his car in the late 1980's. I use it for "kick-around" duty. When I need a meter, but one that may be used in a hostile environment. Other than replacing the batteries, I haven't done a thing to it. And it has seen a pretty hard life.

These were cheap but reliable meters. I had a few for harsh environments when I didn't want to use my good meter. Today I find them collectable.

I have 3 of those meters. It's a very practical meter for a tool box because it closes to protect the meter face. The angle of view is also adjustable which makes it nice to use.

8000 series meters were very well built. We used 8060A's at Unisys for production test.

A Micronta 20K ohm/volt VOM was the first meter I ever owned. I got it new at the Rack Shack with some other tools to fill a little metal tool box from Sears, in order to fulfill my tool requirement list to start the 1 year electronics program at the local community college back in late summer of '82.

I wish I still had the meter. It'd probably out there somewhere still working.

I was at an antique radio club auction on Saturday and saw a very old looking one...I think it was the 260 clone. Probably the oldest Micronta VOM I've seen. Now I wish I'd bid on it.

I see on Surplus Sales Of Nebraska's site they have analog meter kits that are similar to RS's finished products.

Radio Shack also had Archer Kits of the same meters and the cases were blue instead of black.

I never realized they sold VOMs in kit form.

I have one that is "new in box", I was going to build it but decided to leave this way in hopes it will have more value. They carried different model numbers than Micronta but were exactly alike except for the blue case.

Oh that would be tempting. I don't know if I could resist building it, myself, but it really should stay as is, I think.
