Motorola tonearm issues

Post by PhonoBrit on Wed Apr 09, 2014 5:43 pm

When I place the record on the stacker spindle and hit "rej" the tonearm lifts up but does not move towards the record. Anyone have any ideas?

Here is a picture of the unit

I would remove the changer and clean and lubricate the mechanism. Your drive wheel may be slipping, needing cleaning or being replaced. Looks like a VM changer. Good luck.

Drive wheel is soft and providing plenty of torque and the turntable stays spinning just that the tonearm doesn't move across.

Is tonearm stuck in place? If so, it's either jammed, gummed up, or, something like that..

The tonearm actually worked correctly for the first cycle i tried, after that the tonearm just lifts up, the record drops, platter continues to spin. Tonearm then lowers back onto the rest and turns itself off. It's not stuck or gummed up as it works fine in manual mode.

Contact Gary at VM enthusiasts. That has to do with your shut off problem. Spring is ruined. He will need some information from you on numbers of changer, and, he can sell you another spring for it....He can also sell you the repair manual for it. Not sure, but, I think it's the 1200  series record changer...
Please tell him Bill Cahill sent you......
Looks very repairable.....
