new kid on the block

Post by ivanjon on Tue Apr 01, 2014 6:10 am

Hi guys I am new on this site so just want to say hi , I am 64 years young and live in Hobart Tasmania Australia ,I am originally from Nottingham UK and emigrated to Tas 40 years ago ,I would not live anywhere else . I purchased a Philips radiogram circa 1951 to 1955 I think the model number is FX824A I have restrung the radio and all is working fine ,actually it has a lovely sound to it very clear but I don't seem to be able to get the record player part to fire up ,although it is humming and when I touch it the humming stops ,I have not taken it out yet but before I do I wondered if there was something simple I am missing . I will then clean up the cabinet then clear gloss varnish polyurethane ,should be a nice piece of furniture when finished , our son has many vinyl records so we are looking forward to playing those too ,any help would be appreciated , I must say my experience in anything electrical is not great
cheers
Ive

Also, be sure to post your query in the phonograph and record discussion forum so as it progresses, the postings can help others who see it later. Thanks!

Welcome to TRF. I echo the idea of posting in phonograph section. Pictures would help.

Thanks everyone for the lovely welcome I have posted some pics of the radiogram in the phonograph section it is a Philips radiogram model 177 B circa 1955 I shall post more when it is restored ,just got to get the record side of it firing up , I did manage to locate a manual for this model and also a diagram of how to re-string it which I have done now and the radio is working very nicely and has a lovely sound to it
