Maybe we should.....

Post by Wildcat445 on Thu Mar 06, 2014 3:48 pm

....start a thread on "controversial" sellers on ebay and other sales venues.  There is a thread currently open mentioning one.  There may be a need for this information on TRF for the benefit of members who may not be familiar with these sellers.  Anybody down for this?

Regards

WC

Hmm.

Interesting. It's good as a warning to those that don't know, but I'd be concerned about the legal aspect if any of those sellers happen upon this site and find that we've specifically zero'd-in on them...

It's kinda different when we just discuss/gripe about high priced foolishness, but when it can be looked at as a "witch hunt" by someone's attorney....I don't know.

Just my 2 cents.

Yes, the liability is tremendous! You have to contact them and notify them of the post and allow them to respond. Then you end up with a negative thread and a lot of fighting.

Just my thoughts. I suspect it would turn into a witch hunt thing, and, would open a new can of worms.. General complaining is one thing. But, on specific dealers I think will lead to major problems.

We could just say something like before you consider buying a radio on ebay you may want to post the link here and get some insight on it and ask if the price is reasonable or off the wall.. That way people have an idea if it is worth going after or not.

You can post a link in the sales spotting forum then anyone can make a comment.

I don't see the liability, based on the value of a potential loss.  People pick on large companies all the time, and don't get sued.  They gripe about car manufacturers, the junk tv they bought, the gripe about a certain brand of CFL bulbs, that kind of thing.  You would not be talking about a person as a person, but as a vendor or as a seller.  When someone is a public figure he assumes the risk of public ridicule.  I think it is a fairly long stretch to risk a libel suit by a radio seller on ebay.  We do have the first amendment, you know.  Now if you accused a seller of child porn or something heinous like that, especially if untrue, then maybe.  But saying you got screwed on a radio deal, if it is true, is hardly grounds for a lawsuit.  There are certain practitioners on ebay and elsewhere whose antics have been discussed ad nauseum on "that other forum" and nobody got sued.  If the seller is not mentioned specifically, what is gained?  Getting screwed is no fun.  How would you feel is it were you?  Don't we owe it to our newer members to help them avoid this misery if we can?

Information on these sellers is commonly available on ebay. How would our talking about them cause us liability? We have moderators and administrators to prevent a flame war. We don't have a problem with that on this site anyway. We have talked about subjects with diverse opinions. Why sell us short on this topic?

Just thinking out loud here.  I'll go along with what the majority feels is best.

A review ranking can be setup like Amazon? Several categories to rank, with an overall total. With that said, I think it might cause more trouble than it is worth? JMO
