New Energy Mandates

Post by scottb on Thu Feb 05, 2009 8:58 am

On foxnews.com, Obamy signed a bill that requires all new appliances to meet efficiency guidlines. Dishwashers microwaves, stove and of course light bulbs. There is even a mandate on vending machines. Here in Minnesota, pop machines have a 60 to 100 watt light bulb to stop the pop from freezing. I am sure a 30 watt CFL will do the trick Mad No
Another freedom of choice gone, where will it end???

I just can't wait for the appliance manufacturers to be in DC requesting money to develop and meet these guidelines, just as the auto companies did. Evil or Very Mad
Perhaps you guys won't need a 100 watt bulb, Obama seems to full of "bright" ideas! Smile

When does it stop? When it's a full communist police state. That's their agenda. I'm hoarding incans, that's all I know. Not gonna burn my house down.

This is what happens when the government steps outside the limits placed on it by the Constitution. And when the extreme-left wing controls the whole schmeer. None of their damn business. This is statism, pure and simple.

Hi Bill, what brand do you have? I have issues with noise from mine (GE brand) and many, when they are new, don't seem to radiate much hash. When they get older or start to fail, look out!
I traced a problem that wiped out reception from the AM broadcast band all the way up to 6 meters to be from a neighbors outdoor CFL. It was so bad, I had a +10-20 noise level!
My real concern with these CFL is a safety issue. I had one nearly start a fire when it failed and this seems to be fairly common with these bulbs.

I think all of mine are GE although I have some One Dollar Flea Market bulbs that have migrated outdoors because of the odd color.

These spiro-gizmos are really just a fad. Yeah, they cut down my lighting bill but time and experience is saying they aren't carrying the weight that they have proported. I've had very good results with them but I recognize that other folks have differing results.

I noticed on the local shelves that incandescents became scarce for a brief period when the news was all abuzz about the 'new' light bulbs. That wave seems to have passed and the stores are back to stocking regular incandescents as the majority.

They'll have the incandescent bulbs for a while still. The US Government has banned their manufacture as of 2012 and their sale as of 2014.

Then we have the hazards:

I hope that by Jan. 1, 2014, LED technology has progressed further.

It would behoove all of us to start stockpiling incandescent bulbs by buying a few packages at a time when we go to the dollar store.

SPEAKING OF LIGHT BULBS....
I HAVE A DUMB RADIO STORY. BACK WHEN I PURCHASED MY FIRST VINTAGE RADIO, EYE-TUBE OF COURSE, I COULDN'T WAIT TILL I COULD PLUG IT IN. WHEN I FINALLY RECEVIED IT I RAN UPSTAIRS AND CAREFULLY UNPACKED IT AND PLUGED IT IN. TO MY DISMAY I COULD NOT RECIEVE ANYTHING ON ANY OF THE BANDS BUT SEVERE HUM AND INTERFERENCE. I TRIED ALL SORTS OF THINGS INCLUDING DIFFERENT ANTENNAS AND DIFFERENT PLUG IN LOCATIONS. JUST ABOUT THE TIME I WAS ABOUT TO GIVE UP I DECIDED TO TURN OFF THE HALOGEN LAMP IN THE CORNER OF THE ROOM TO SEE THE EYE-TUBE BETTER AND.... affraid
I GUESS YOU CAN FINISH THE STORY!

Bill, how many four packs of incandescents have you stockpiled so far?

I've noticed that Wal-Mart only has a few incandescent bulbs these days, and in weird wattage sizes. (not the common 60 and 75 watt bulbs)
