Dealing With ARF Being Temporarily Down

Post by Don Cavey on Tue Feb 03, 2009 3:58 pm

You bunch of junkies! Wink You just can't stay away from this electronics stuff.

Well, obviously, neither can I. Great minds think alike. I see that the software being used for ARF looks familiar! I am sure it will be great and I thank Alan Vorhees for doing this in his spare time.

Let's all drive over to Curt Reed's home. I bet he will have several cold 807s in the fridge. We can tell all of our lies to each other, consume a few "Adult Beverages" and just wait for the forum to come back up.

I hit it one time at about 7:45EST and I got the login and password page. FireFox filled in the info but the server (ARF) rejected it. Now, it will only load the page.

I am probably one of those jerks that is causing Alan a headache while he is trying to get it online. Twisted Evil

I've been wondering about that myself... I know it's a lot of work, but it's been four days already.. does it take THAT long to back up the data to a new server? Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining... just wondering. I'm sure Alan is doing everything he can to get the site up and running again as quickly as possible.

I would bet it takes that long. I am forever thankful for what we have had and will have...

I'd rather it take long than to wake up to the same problems... thank God, it looks like he installed new software though.

...yes, I'm inclined to believe that getting ARF transferred and the new server debugged (there are bound to be a few bugs and 'teething problems' with a new server) is not going to be an overnight project. Best thing we can do is be patient and use this site as our 'backup' while Alan (is it?) does his good work...

What I think is happening is very complex.
You have to import the database, and some databases, can't import unfamiliar types.
Then you have the Members, Administrators, Moderators, and their profiles.
Then you have all the Passwords and Names and email, PMs, Pictures, Forum topics and structure.
Then all the subjects.
Then comes the fun of Formatting the graphics.
And Links, and integrating all into a new forum.
whew!!!!
That took time to explain the simple things that take place. Suspect
