Re: GPX Boom box
Does the CD spin or do you get any info such as tracks, etc.?

Timaaay
When I put 3 disc in and close it I get some noise from the drive but none from the speakers then when I press open it will not open and I turn the unit off and pull out the turn table to get the disc back out.
There is no information about the tracks.
Thanks for any help.

Re: GPX Boom box
Hi Lee,
I'd first try to clean the lens. There are special disks or kits to do this but if you can get a damp Q-tip in there with some denatured alcohol, wipe it off well. Also check the traverse assembly (there's a metal rod that the laser travels along and a gear that drives it) if CDs aren't recognized or won't play, dust or dirt may be impeding it's free travel. Just remember to put some grease back on it should you need to clean it.
Often times it's a broken drive belt that spins the disk itself. The sound you hear may be the laser moving. Try to see if the disk is actually spinning.
Don't overlook the obvious (such as a bad disk, etc.) but I'm sure you know this. Usually the biggest challenge is getting the darn thing open to service it. The only worse thing may be getting it back together.
Assuming, once you open it, you don't see any broken parts, gears, clips, belts, etc. It could possible be an electronic issue such as an A to D converter, but it's usually not. It's almost always a mechanical problem.
I hope this helps and perhaps someone else had some input.

Thanks Resistance and Timaaay.
I took it apart and found the turntable out of alignment I loosended it up and adjusted it and cleaned the lense while I had it apart. put it back together and it seems to work ok.

Re: GPX Boom box
Great Lee! I know those boomboxes can be a real pain to open and get back together some times.
Now let's hope your granddaughter (Not sure of her age) doesn't use it to blast RAP music when she's over for a visit!
