Corona 22k btu kerosene heater Empty Corona 22k btu kerosene heater

Post by tuberadiogeek on Thu Nov 21, 2013 10:24 pm

I recently purchased a Corona 22k btu kerosene heater off CL that came with a Ker-blo 210 blower and 5 gallons of kereosene in a can for 70.00. It belonged to an older couple that used it a few times. I was just doing a bit of cleaning and noticed the rear little plastic "windows" is slightly damaged likely from having the wick too high too long since it was sooty in there. My question is what is the proper name for them and where can I find them? As I imagine they are replaceable since there are screws there.

How old do you suppose the heater is? Its age might be important in trying to determine what material you have.

Well the model is 22-dk b. They said they purchased for the ice storm we had which was in 2005 I believe. However the owners manul says 1982 on the front in small print. I don't really think its quite that old but I'm not certain.

My advice would be to seek out a big old hardware store if you still have any in the area. When I lived in southern Michigan and had a need for such an item, I would head for one of the department stores in amish country.

What 75 said. There used to be some material called "ising glass" (sp?) that was used like a window in heating stoves. I haven't seen or heard of the stuff for many years. I don't know if it can still be bought, but I kinda doubt it.

We used to carry it in the hardware store I worked in in my home town. It came in envelopes in assorted sizes. The store closed in 1978. You spelled it right, though it is one word. It basically refers to mica sheet selected for it's transparency.

The term in various spellings also referred to the clear flexible plastic used for windows in canvas vehicle and carriage curtains.

You seem to have solved the mystery, 75. I remember using ising glass in side curtains in touring cars, but had forgotten. Thanks.

Thanks. Now that I know what its called I can search for it locally. I just thought it was plastic but I guess its not. I'm going to look at our ace hardware store as they still carry some of the older hard to find products. I may also check ebay.
