I have a security porch light on the back deck, that has a halogen lamp that comes on dusk to dawn at 50 watts, and has a PIR detector that bumps it up to 100 watts when anyone enters its range. It brightens for 20 minutes then goes back to normal. For the last week, it has been bright nearly all the time and today when I took the wearherizing off the patio door, I got my screwdriver and pliers expecting to do some surgery. Surprise, surprise!

Yep, It's Spring. P1000376o

I checked the nest for any eggs or residents. Fortunately there were none. I removed the nest. It was as big inside as a WWII Navy coffee cup.

I don't know what kind of bird it was, but it incorporated about a half pound of mud into the nest. That'd be some rich soup! Razz

It sounds like it might be a barn swallow. Can you see the adult birds? If so, they have a split tail and an orange breast.

The only bird of such size to match the nest that I have seen in the yard is nearly twice the size of a robin and mostly brown with a gray underside.

Freezing rain here, 35 mph winds, lights are flickering and once the temp drops, we will get between 7-12 inches of snow with the high winds!!!!

It's "Spring" here too. One day it was 82 then the next day it was 74 until it the Thunder boomers hit and dropped the temp about 15 degrees in about an hours time. Then dumped almost 2 inches of rain in less then 2 days. The rest of the week is going to be in the high 40's with snow flurries one day. That snow storm that hit Minnesota is heading towards Ohio keeping out temps nice and Fall like..

We had pollen flurries this morning, followed by a nice rinsing rain that finally removed the yellow haze that has covered the area.

We got hammered with about 6 inches of wet/heavy snow at the end of March. It doesnt sound like alot, but its about the max amount the streets department can handle in a timely manner. If we get much more at one time the roads wouldnt be clear for 3 days and most businesses would close down for atleast a day. This past winter/spring we got close to 6 inches a few different times. That was unusual, bc we maybe get 2-3 inches a few times then end with 5 or 6 inches. So our 6-7 inches is like other places getting 12-14 inches. I'm hoping that snow stays to the North bc i'm not looking forward to shoveling any more until Dec/Jan..

Well, for everyone still dealing with snow, here's a spring image I saw in my yard at the farm house yesterday. It's a nest being build in my crab apple tree by a Black Capped Chickadee;

Going to have to mow here soon. The Bluebirds are busy building their nest in the box outside my window and the cats are busy watching the progress.

Even though still in a draught, we went from winter to mid summer.
Unusually hot here. Three days ago we got up to 90. Two days ago, 86. Yesterday, 81. I've been having to run my air conditionner all week.

What is funny here, is I have not seen or heard a snowplow all day and yet in the fall, they chase that one snowflake for hours. Must be out of money!!

State is still in draught. No rain at all, and, it is cooler in morning, and, evenning because the last three days have been cloudy.
The birds have stopped, and, two of my "draught tolerant " plants have died.
