New member from Michigan

Post by Rich K. on Mon Mar 25, 2013 2:47 pm

Hi! My name is Rich, and I live in Charlevoix, Michigan (north-western Lower Peninsula). I have been interested in antique radios and electronics since I was in high-school (1980's), and bought my first antique radio, a mid-1920's homebrew crystal set, around 1990-1991. Since then I have accumulated a reasonable collection of radios, some purchased and some given to me. I have in my collection, besides the crystal set, the following radios and speakers (some non-functioning and in need of repair/restoration):

1924 RCA Radiola III third production run (needs tubes)
ca. 1925 homebrew 3-tube regenerative (works great!)
1925 Atwater Kent Type "M" horn speaker (restored; works great)
1926 Atwater Kent Model 35 (restored, works great)
1927 RCA Radiola 17 (needs repair & restoration)
1928 Atwater Kent Model 40 w/matching Type "E" cone speaker (restored, works great)
1928 Crosley Gembox (needs repair)
1928 RCA Radiola 60 Super-heterodyne (needs repair & restoration)
1927-1928 Radiola 100-A speakers (two of them, both in need of repair/restoration)
1936 Mantola R-401 (needs repair)
1936 Silvertone 1970A console (repaired & restored, works, but needs some minor tweaking)
1936 Air King "Premier" TRF midget (repaired & restored, works okay for what it is)
1937 Philco 37-60 (needs repair & restoration)
1937 Philco 37-84 (needs repair & restoration)
1940 RCA 46-24 (works, cabinet needs restoration)
1941 Silvertone 2441 farm radio with matching "Powr-Shiftr" power supply (restored, works great)
1947 Pilotuner FM tuner (works, but needs alignment)
1951 Tele-Tone 206 AM/FM (needs repair)
1952 Zenith Trans-Oceanic H500 (works, needs new tolex on the cabinet)
1967 Zenith Trans-Oceanic Royal 3000-1 (works great; converted to take AA batteries to replace missing battery pack)

I've got a couple others here and there but I can't remember offhand what they are. I love taking an old, crusty radio and making it work (and sometimes, if it's TOO crusty, look) like new!

I am also a licensed ham operator (KC8MWG), though I don't have a shack set up right now (waiting for my parents to finish the apartment they're building in their basement).

Rich--If you find yourself in or passing through the Harrison-Clare area, let me know and maybe we can have a get-together. Send me a PM and I'll give you my details.
