Post by tuberadiogeek on Mon Feb 11, 2013 10:56 pm

Hello all, I'm Ben better known as Tuberadiogeek or Benkeys on other forums. My interest are computers, tube radios and amps,70s and 80s SS stuff, rotatory phones, and electronics in general. I also have a interest in other things, like trains and railroad history and different kinds of radio listening like scanners and shortwave.(hopefully i'll have my 1st SW set soon) I am still a bit of a novice when it comes to restoring antique radios but ive learned alot over the past few years. I also have learned alot about antique phones and how to get wire them to get most to ring. I'll be posting about all different types of things here so be prepared bc you'll never know what type of things i will post.. lol..

Hi Ben, and welcome to TRF!

I've been to Lima and installed the phone system in the Wingate Hotel there. I'm also a member of the C&O Historical Society, we study the locomotives made in Lima for the C&O Railroad, Smile

Welcome! I also worked in Lima. I was working for a medical outfit out of Columbus that serviced the emergency room/lab equipment for hospitals through the entire four state region. I remember it being like the Salinas area where I was raised due to all the agriculture. The last time I drove up there was probably late July 1978 and there was a big to-do out there on some kind of track where they were trying to prove the 55mph mandatory speed laws weren't helping with gas mileage. Stopped and ate lunch there the day before I had to move back west. I was living in a cabin on Buckeye Lake out near Reynoldsburg(?). (all subject to memory)

Hope you enjoy yourself here. It's a good place

So far this place is nice and relaxed compared to another radio forum i used to post on.. but no need to name that forum... I just now seen more replies here, idk why they did not show up in my email like other replied topics.. Mezlaw, i think you mean B&O, not C&O? The Wingate is a nice hotel down town, actually not too far from the old phone company building.. used to be united telephone, then sprint had it, then embarq and now century link.. idk if it is still being used or not bc i dont use analog phone. Train history around here is very interesting and ive never been on one either Bill.. however i live right by the most common used tracks in town.. which is actually 4 sets- 2 side by side are CSX (old B&O) 1 Norfolk southern (old Nickel Plate) and then another CSX set which is less used then the others. The most interesting thing about these tracks are they lead into the Oil refinery and into the Joint Systems building, which is where tanks are produced. I may post RR related stuff time to time.

If you are into trains check out the movie the station agent. It has Peter Dinkage in it who was in the movie that was called a angry little elf. Its a simple movie where Peter inherits the train station and he is really into trains. It revolves around him and the ecentric people he meets.

I don't know if I would buy it but it comes on IFC. Its one of those odd but interesting movies that IFC has sometimes. I think it was the movie Peter got his big break.

I dont get the IFC network. My cable carries it but you have to subscribe to a package of channels to get it, which i think is like 6 or 8 channels and they cost 11.00 a month. To me them channels usually do not play good enough movies to spend an extra 11.00 a month.. now if they were still 6.00 like they were about 4 or 5 years ago then i'd consider it.
