New Member Northern Ky/Cincinnati Area

Post by John Richter on Thu Jan 31, 2013 2:21 pm

I'm a new member and would like to say hello to all. I'm always glad to find new forums for this wonderful hobby. I hail from Northern Ky just south of Cincinnati. Currently I own about 45 radios, 10 that I have refurbished. Most of them are tabletop models, but I own two consoles: 1949 Sears model and 1930 Philco.

I found that I love refurbishing these old tube radios, but I have a hard time letting go of them. I've only managed to put one up for sale so far, and I'm sorry that I let that one go. But I'm slowly learning that as the funds run out, I need to sell some of them in order to get my dream radios.... But really I don't know what my dream radio would be. I guess I'll know it when I see it. A lot of people like the Walton's Zenith. It's ok but for the money I think it's more hoopla than I need. I think my dream collection would be aqbout 12 to 15 radios covering all the decades from the 20's through the 60's, with the emphasis on the earlier ones.

Anyway, that's me in a nutshell. I hope we can become friends.

Welcome to TRF forums........ I'm sure your "illness" will grow as ours has.
This is great fun, and, we are saving American history in part.

Welcome to TRF John, I'm sure it will be easy to make friends here.

Good luck on getting your dream radio, I found mine, it's a Philco 41-258. There are some photos of it on this board.

Mine is still to replace my 12 tube Walton tombstoene radio. I had that set before show was even on. I loved it. It got caught in a basement sewer flood. My mother threw it out.
Sad... Two weeks earlier, when it was given to me by a teacher in my junior high, it was mint, and, played.
I cried for a week after that radio was tossed.

Hi John! There are several of us around Ky. If you don't know, there are regular swap meets in Lexington, northern Cincinnati, Columbus and Huntington, WV. Have you been to the radio museum in Huntington? [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Spring Traders show and auction April 20th!

I try to get over to Huntington from time to time on my way to Grayson Kentucky. Maybe some of us can plan to meet at one of the events at thr radio museum.
