Wanted-tube tester meter cover

Post by DancingBear on Sat Jan 26, 2013 4:30 pm

My plastic meter cover is cracked. It's a loaner so want to give it back in the same condition. Murphy's selective gravity rule.

You need to be specific, as there are many different tube tester models and brands, even different meters within brands.

That's like saying I need my windshield replaced. OK I may have what your looking for, now if I only knew which one to pick for him, is it a ford or Honda or Model T???????

Thanks, Cliff. Getting old sure is fun, isn't it? I walked the 50 yards to the shop and wrote it down...then didn't include it.

It's a Hickox 600A. I don't see any branding marks on the meter itself.

Tnx-

Cliff-
I did put it down but not in the proper place. It is on the intro to the thread.

You may want to check with the guy at http://www.shedradios.com . He has a website with pictures of old buildings and sheds he has got stuff from. I have the same tester I think and I need the case and the roll chart with paper. I have a copy of the chart. On his site he showed this one old shed that he got stuff from and one of the pictures had about three of those in one picture if I remember correctly. Although the case was shot it did have the hinges, handle, latches and roll chart, I think they had good meters as well. I had thought about checking to see if he would sell me a roll chart and the metal items from the case. He may have a meter still that he would sell. Its well worth a look even if you don't need something he has found.

Willy-
I agree! This is a good site even though (so far) all of the meter plastics I see (3) are also cracked. I can make one but would rather have the original. But, the junk is great to look at and I already have a list I want to inquire about. Good link. Thanks-

Can other meter covers work? I have a bunch somewhere brand new I will see if any will work with the one I have. If it fits mine it should fit yours. . I have some stored somewhere in my mess. If you find others work let me know and I will see if I have any.

Thanks, Willy. When the current deluge subsides I'll head to the shop and take a measurement.

I've seen two types. Is Your broken one the all transparent one?

No, the bottom of the "glass", down by the adjust screw, is a bit opaque. I can almost read the letters under it but it is frosted. I meant to get measurements but forgot and won't be in shop for a few hours but I think they are all the same size.

The reason I asked is because if the cover can't be replaced, I have used this cement on such plastics, but i would only use it if the crack extends to the edge of the material, as it has the best result if it can be applied at an edge and flow up the crack without getting on the surrounding surfaces. It makes an opaque area where it is applied to a clear surface. if it flows through a crack, it only affects and joins that area. This is the cement.

My problem is all cosmetic as it is still in one piece. This may strengthen it but I'm wanting to keep it in the same shape it was when it was loaned to me. I spent an afternoon mounting it up away from my work area to prevent things like this and then I dropped my screwdriver. Murph did the rest.

If it's a spider, that is a tough fix.
