How cold is it? Empty How cold is it?

According to the thermometer outside my window it is 18 degrees. No matter what I did I kept feeling cold air. I finally isolated it to my side door. Cold air was pouring in around the edges and underneath.
This is my temp fix until I can do the job right.

Last week, we had minus 27 for about a day. That's on the Celsius scale. Today, we're getting another snow storm with temps of minus 10 with wind chills to the minus 18 to 20 area. Again, in the Celsius scale.

I don't mind it as much since I retired and don't have to go out into it anymore. Very Happy

Usually when it drops like that the barometric pressure changes too. That's what causes joint pain

I know other places have much lower temperatures. Ugh!

As some of you know I moved into this house all by myself during the hottest summer in years, with essentially no air conditioning. So I'm still finding out stuff. Stuff like they invested thousands in new energy efficient windows but didn't insulate the walls. I can move my hand from the window to the wall next to it and feel a big difference.

I also wondered why the kitchen is so cold. It's sitting on a one inch floor over the cellar with no insulation. Kind of like sitting on a refrigerator. I also have a heater with a defective thermocouple. And most of the heat from all of the heaters goes up the chimney anyway.

I have to wear three layers of clothing and sometimes gloves to keep warm. And I can't wait to see this month's energy bill.

It's okay though, four months out of the year this is a great place to live

I just crossed over the mountain and went into the Shenandoah Valley where it is 19F. At the top of the mountain it was only 12F at mid day.

I had a lot of infiltration around my door ad put the vinyl v stripping around the door jamb and a new sweep on the door bottom and the storm door bottom. That made quite a difference.

Ever hear a house make banging and groaning during extreme temp changes?
I think about 5 years ago, we set a record in early May, 105 degrees with high humidity. I was miserable and put the AC in the windows. I woke up the next morning and it was 20 degrees with snow on the ground, with the bedroom AC on LOL!!!!

I once saw it snow on Derby day, the second Saturday in May.

Two years ago we had a fall that lasted forever. It was beautiful from the end of August until the end of October. Every day was around 70. I took some of my best flower photos during then.

6:30 AM in Nova Scotia and the temps are at minus 18C (about 0F on your south of the border scale). Wind chills are at about minus 30C.

New Brunswick has closed some schools today due to the temps over there. They're getting minus 35C with wind chills of minus 40C.

Gonna be like this for the next few days if the forecasts can be believed.

Heh. Now I forgot the year, but, do you remember the big storm?'76??
Your country had a terrible winter storm, and, it blew over the Detroit river. Our temperatures crashed to -40F, and, we had howling winds, heavy snowfall, and, a miserable week. I believe it was on Thursday night that Detroit got over 8 feet of actual snow, with drifts up to 15 feet.
Traffic on busy eight mile road from John R to Kelley Road was down to a crawl.. Av. speed that night was about eight miles an hour when it moved at all.
That was a horrible storm...........
