Another Greetings From Montana

Post by juniorfan93 on Thu Jan 10, 2013 12:26 am

I just registered on this site. I am scottj5395's son. I am currently attending college at University of Montana-Western in Dillon, MT. Just like my dad, I am not very knowledgeable in repairing radio's. My collection of radios is extremely smaller than my dads collection of radios. But, the funny thing is, most of mine work and most of his don't. I have fixed a grand total of two radios. I have three plastic radios and four wooden radios. But, three of the wooden radios do not work the Stewart Warner, Philco, and Zenith. My favorite one, that use to work, is the 1946 Stewart Warner Model 62TC16. We were playing cards one night after christmas and it made a loud pop, then a buzzing noise, and then it stunk up the room, no more transformer. Does anyone have one that would work? Anyways my dad said this is a good place to hang out and HI to everyone.

Welcome to TRF. I hightly reccommend that you stop using your collection until it is properly restored. We are willing to help you here, and, have an excellent tutorial section. I would highly reccommend that you start reading books about antique radio restoration, and, learn how to read schematics, solder properly, troubleshoot, etc.....
You burned up your power transformer because your power supply capacitors shorted out.
Sounds like other dammage was done, as well....
To save the rest of the collection, and, possibly your house, I'd reccommend plugging in no more untill proper testing, and, restoration work is done.
