The Drawer Empty The Drawer

Post by Guest on Sun Jan 06, 2013 12:26 am

When I was growing up, there was one drawer in the kitchen that contained blown fuses, burned out light bulbs, dead batteries, keys to which there were no locks, doors, cars, nor cabinets. My mother kept them there, and it it was a running joke between me and my dad that if they were left in there long enough, they would eventually heal up and that was what my mother was trying to do. If we needed a bulb or fuse, mom would say you know where they are! (yes, at the @#!* store!) Has anyone else had (or has now) such a place in the family home for useless items that simply couldn't be thrown away, but were of no value other than providing ballast to keep the house from floating into the sky? I asked about 5 people at work, and 4 said they did or do now. We had about a half hours' laughter discussing it.

Yep we have a drawer like that. Contains: batteries (dead or alive..who knows?), screws, nails, mystery keys, a screwdriver and or pliers or two, couple of locked padlocks w/ no combination, sheetrock plugs for screwing in screws, a small cheap level.

We have the same drawer in our kitchen too. I refuse to go anywhere near it cause when I try to look for something, I can never close the drawer again. That annoys the wife a bit. Very Happy

Yup, one junk drawer in the kitchen. Has old car keys too. We bought a new house six years ago and the old drawer was emptied into it's own box and moved to the new kitchens junk drawer.

I don't know why we have one, nothing every comes back out. Mine is only two feet from the trash can and I think a few things will get moved about two feet!

My wife actually tries to ORGANIZE the junk drawer occasionally. we don't have dead keys and junk like that, we have IMPORTANT junk. Ceiling fan parts left over from installation, my pocket screwdriver that she swears I lost, a 25 foot tape measure that is only 10 feet long now, but works in the house okay, pliers and small tools that she does not want to dig thru my big tool box to find. When she organizes the junk drawer, I can't find a thing. So I mess it up. She straightens it up.

Regards

We had a kitchen "junk" drawer growing up, mostly stuff my dad had accumulated over the years. I remember it being loaded with old CB parts & a lot of other things that I didn't recognize at the time. When I got a place of my own I started my own drawer & it has gone with me from kitchen to kitchen. However, now I am using an extra dresser drawer in the bedroom. It's bigger & can hold way more stuff Wink
