Hoping to find some info on this toolbox

Post by Jim K on Mon Dec 10, 2012 4:50 pm

Hello, I'm new to the forum and was wondering if anyone might be able to give me an approximate age of this Sylvania toolbox I picked up at a yard sale. I'm drawn to old electronic stuff for some reason, nostalgia probably, I got into it when my dad passed away and got his 8 tracks and LP's and needed to find something to play them on. I've mostly been working on mid-century telephone desk sets lately.
I apologize if I'm in a wrong section of the forum for this topic.
I did try to find a time-line of Sylvania Logos to help me age the box, but didn't have much luck.
Thanks for any help, Jim King
Well - Looks Like I'll have to first, find a place to post pictures of my stuff - Might take a bit, never done that yet
Peace, Jim KingRepairmans Box

Welcome to TRF forums. Pictures would definately help.
Photobucket is one good online place to store pictures, and, copy them to the forums.

I was thinking 60's or 70's, but come to think more on it, could be by the 70's they might have gone with plastic (have no idea really,) besides the vintage look, I needed somewhere to keep some new crimping tools and stuff I've picked up lately for a project. Payed for itself really, payed $10 bucks, and it had 50 or so fuses and some re-set fuses, solder, solder wick, some high temp silcone stuff, and a bunch of other stuff I have no idea what it is.

That's a caddy for carrying transistors, modules, and, tools. But, it could certainly be used for tubes. That is from the early 70's. Very nice condition, indeed.
Notice it says Electronic Components, and, not Sylvania tubes.

Those parts caddies were popular. I bought a pair of large GE caddies at an auction. Each one has two doors on the face that open to reveal six pull out parts drawers. They were full of TV parts and modules so no one bid on them. I thought they were great for parts storage so I got them both for 5 bucks and tossed all the TV parts in a box.

If you find one that has a mirror inside the cover it was primarily for a TV repairman so he could set the tube caddy in front of the TV with the top open and use the mirror to see the screen as he was adjusting the set in the back.

I have one of the original "Bell System" blue and yellow tool caddies.

I'll have to take a photo and post it!
