Speaker re-cone and repair

Post by W8WHO on Tue Dec 04, 2012 12:28 am

Hello All. Can anyone recommend a good source to have speakers re-coned? i have a couple 5" and another oval . One has the small wires that connect to the cone pulled out. The other needs a whole cone. Thanks

That's a great link, you should also put that in the "useful links" forum.

I've been to Lima, I installed the phone system in the Wingate hotel. There is a lot of steam engine history there.

I can also suggest Ken, he has done three for me so far and the work is great. Yes, a little grumpy but we all are. Smile

Speaker re-cone ... can be a totally different animal, at times. You might have to refurb with a new and slightly different size/dimension speaker. A tear or a rip - I cut small pieces/squares from a paper towel and soak the small 'patches' in rubber cement and apply to the cone .. let dry. Works great!

I will admit to having a couple speaker cones repaired with bright red finger nail polish that my wife was not using anymore.

Small cone repairs can easily be done by any of us with various methods although I have never heard of finger nail polish. Very Happy When the cone is totally shot, I go to the experts. Finding the proper cone, cheap if you can find one and all the other stuff. I just trust someone who knows what they are doing. Hence, Ken. No, we are not related, he is an active member on this forum, I support these people although he perhaps has mellowed out a bit. Very Happy Jerry

And just think ... after you fix your speaker with fingernail polish you can then refinish the cabinet with more fingernail polish .

It will look fabulous cheers
