I probably will buy 2 or 3 for Wednesdays drawing. What the heck. Never hurts to dream. I might spend $20/year on the lottery/gambling so I'll give it a go.

I never buy lottery tickets. I remember a lesson from my Grandad, he said; "The best way to double your money it to fold it in half and put it in your pocket!"

lol!

I've bought lottery tickets for a long while...still waiting to be struck by lightning. Crying or Very sad However it does generate some hope. Smile

The bane of convenience stores----standing in line waiting for people who don't have two nickels to rub together spend money they can't spare to buy a pig in a poke. Nice.

What I find interesting is that people who don't usually buy lottery tickets, will when the jackpot gets up to the mega millions. Guess it is the greed gene, but just winning 2 million isn't a bad catch.

Yeah..as mentioned I might spend $20/year on the lottery. Several casinos around and haven't been into one in 10 years. When I was in a Kansas casino I was truly amazed at the broad spectrum of our society represented.

I have always wondered how much welfare money is squandered on gambling?
Of course there are two ways to look at getting lottery tickets, First the more poeple buy, the less chances of winning, second the more tickets you buy, the more chances to win!
Gee what are the odds? Suspect

People tell me that they have no money to start a savings account, or to fund a 401(k), but they are sucking on a cigarette, have a big screen tv, and have a cell phone buried in their ear. AND they hold up the line at the Circle K when I want a Pepsi, and they are buying their stupid lottery ticket. They could take all that money and put it in a savings account at 3/4 of a percent interest and in five years, they could have bought a new car. Cash money. Just different priorities, I guess.

I reckon if one spends just a little on it, they are getting the maximum benefit with minimum exposure. Most folks are just buying a bit of hope. I can afford to be philosophical about it. They don't sell lottery tickets at the Sams Club gas station. Smile

Why the frenzy for the 400 million plus?
couldn't spend it in your life time. A few mil would be just fine. No I don't buy them. Never won anything in my life. Don't expect to. Well, I did win in the draft lottery but does that count? Very Happy

I just buy one ticket. It gives me a chance at winning. Don't really care if its 500 million or one million. If it was the big one I'd wind up giving most of it to charity anyway. My wife and I would not need that much. I'd buy a house in the mountains, a nice RV so we could travel around the U.S. and Canada, set the kids up and give the rest to veterans programs, animal rescues, orphanages, and children's hospitals. My collecting habits would seriously change though. I would have that Zenith Strat, an original RCA Therimin, a Crosley Coca-Cola bottle along with a few others which I could never afford.

I worked at a convenience store when I was a teenager. It was amazing to see folks come in and drop $100 per day into lottery tickets. What's more amazing is that most of the people playing were those who didn't really have disposable income. I guess they won enough to keep their hopes alive, but certainly not enough to come close to making a return on their investment.

It is a ticket of hope. Same reason people people gamble in casinos. As long as you can afford it, it is entertainment. I suspect someone will win the powerball...if not, can you imagine the next jackpot!!!!

Michael Medved was discussing some instances of poeople winning the lottery, on his radio show. He gave the example of an individual that won 133 million and by the end of 3 months, he was not only broke, but 30 thousand in the hole. Some people are just amazing.

My God. What a mess! I would first have paid off all bills, including the motgage. I would have done repairs, maintennance, additions to home, health issues, family, church, friends. And, saved money. However, gotten a non listed phone number, and, saved money for a rainy day.

Looks like the Missouri family will have $125 million "free and clear". Guarantee you they'll have to hire security to keep people from forming a line at thier door.

They'll need security for several reasons especially if there are young children in the family. Sometimes it's a curse!

If it was me, I'd demand they keep it a secret who the winner was. I wouldn't advertise it.

Yep...I agree. Someone in a town 200 miles NE of me won part of the last large lottery. Something around $100 million free and clear and did not disclose ID.

Part of the deal with winning the lottery, they will not release funds without a real name.

Drawings over. looks like at least one nice couple won half. I don't buy tickets anymore since they raised the price to $2 per. That's half a gallon of gas where I am. Happy for those who win, though, but never was a gambler on anything. Best of luck to all here who enjoy the games!

I have to admit that not long ago I started buying "Quick Pick" tickets. I've won less than I've spent but it is fun every once in awhile to win a few bucks. The most I ever won at one time was $160. That was fun. I guess that's what keeps me buying them. I usually spend $5 but sometimes a little more. I win a LOT of 'free tickets'. How can a ticket be free if you paid for it?
I once saw a TV interview when the Power Ball jackpot was huge. The very first sentence out of his mouth was, "Don't buy Quick Pick tickets".
Oh well, we Sagittarius never learn.
