Eico 147A Signal Generator

Post by Guest on Thu Nov 01, 2012 3:57 pm

I also came across this signal generator purchased at the same time as the audio generator.

Has anyone restored one of these?

I have not restored one but have done minor repairs to mine. I use it a lot on bench. It is quite versatile.

I have not restored one but I do have one of the cap checkers about the same time I just bought. I have a good one I actually use and I just bought it for the looks. Mine is one of the blue looking ones. I also want a few old tube type test pieces to restore. The parts manuals and user guides are out there easy to find. I don't think they should be that hard to fix, at least hopefully they won't be.

The Eico 147A is a signal tracer. Basically it has a high gain tube amplifier used in conjunction to trace the signal path from the RF stage to the audio stage of a radio. It also has a jacks to the audio transformer inside the tracer you can use if you have a bad audio transformer in the radio.

I have 1 or 2 but I have not restored mine.

I just noticed, I titled this thread as a Signal Generator instead of a Signal Tracer. I'm not sure why I made that mistake, (I know better) but thanks for bringing it to my attention Sal. Smile

Must have something to do with age! lol!

Replace the caps, make sure the resistors have not drifted and make sure if that light bulb is burned out, try to get the same type in there as it is apart of the oscillator circuit.

Other than that, you'll have a nice piece of equipment for your bench Very Happy
