New Guy

Post by mcoates on Thu Oct 18, 2012 11:50 pm

I'm from Baltimore, Maryland and have been repairing vintage radios for about a year and a half. My interest goes back to the purchase of a Zenith 11s474 in mid 1990's. It recently needed a recapping and refinishing. I did not want to start with that set because I wasn't knowledgeable enough yet. So, I began purchasing small table-top radios and began reading and referring to forums when I got stuck. With help, I have learned how to do all the basics, and more. I still get stumped, so that's where this forum would come in. It seems like a great group of guys and I'm excited to be a part of it. By the way, I did repair the Zenith, and although I had to learn how to repair wood, ie lacquer, stain, and toner, I was very satisfied with the results. Thanks!!!

Welcome aboard. You did the right thing working your way up to the restoration of the Zenith. Too many dive right into massive projects they are unprepared for and end up giving up in disgust or damaging a valuable radio.

It's a great group here.

Welcome to the site. Thats a good start, working on small then working up to one with more parts. I have done quite a few of the more complicated ones but my favorites are the smaller radios from the late 40s to 50s. I just like them better.
