Capacitor suppliers

Post by Guest on Wed Sep 26, 2012 9:34 am

I did get some feed back in another thread about one supplier of capacitors but thought I would get a little more info in the "parts" forum. I think it helps build searchable content which in turn helps the board overall.

I found these three sites and wonder what your experience is with the products and company selling them.

Like I said, I trust Just Radios, in Canada. But, if you want your parts sooner than a month, y'ld better pay the little extra for air shipping.
Customs blocks it for a long time, otherwise.

I guess some will accuse me of not supporting the "little guy" Mom 'n Pop shops, but I really like Mouser Electronics.

www.mouser.com

No minimum order amount, if you request a printed catalog, it's bigger than some phone books and they'd have just about anything you'd need for old radios--mica caps, electrolytics, resistors, strain reliefs, lamps, etc etc.

I personally use Nichicon and Panasonic brand capacitors for electrolytics. They may be a bit more $ depending on what spec's your after (temperature, esr, etc), but they seem to outlast and be better constructed then the others.

I ordered two kits today from justradios.com.
I wasn't sure where the postage would be so I went through the process and came to a page that asked me to finalize my purchase. I decided not to because there still was no option for airmail. When I went back and started the odered again, I found the airmail was an "item" you need to put in your cart for check-out. That worked fine but my emails were for two orders!!!! One with airmail and one without. I sent an email back requesting a delete on the order without airmail. A guy named Dave replied right away confirming he deleted he order without airmail.
Very nice people to work with! Very Happy

I only use the first link ...Bob's . His prices are low , no shipping charge most of the time and he throws in gifts with a larger order .

I have used wjoe and justradios with good results. wjoe offers a bit more selection & doesn't have a minimum order unlike justradios. Another good one I've used is www.radiodaze.com

I buy all my parts from Mouser.

But then I'm in business, and can't risk a warranty return due to a faulty part.

I recently inquired of one of the small vendors regarding capacitor, and was told they sold no-name imports. No thanks.

I've heard people say they don't want to pay the higher prices for quality merchandise.
You need to realize that the costs associated with a single failure will wipe out any money you saved, and no amount
of money can repair your damaged reputation.

I was not aware there is a difference in the quality of capacitors for these different suppliers! Has anyone been disapointed with the products from any of them?

The materials I've purchased from justradios have performed well for a few years now. If something along that line performed badly I would not recommend it, or explain the circumstances.

I recently got an assortment of film type axial 630v cap. from Sal @ tuberadios.com/capacitors.
I was very pleased with the transaction.

I have bought from Antique Electronic Supply, Justradios, and wjoe. Only problems I have had with any was wjoe sent two bags of resistors instead of three that I ordered, only a dollar so no big deal.

I bought my last order through AES last month.
They now carry very little radio related stuff. Mostly guitars. Guess that ends it for me..............
