BSR A29 changer issue

Post by simplex1040 on Sun Sep 09, 2012 6:53 pm

Working on a 1970s console for someone. It had bad caps in amp, distorted sound, left channel out. Got those issues fixed then tackled the BSR changer. BSR was seized from the dried grease. Got it unstuck and playing with exception to the automatic function. It seems to get stuck at the "record drop" position in the cycle. I cleaned all old grease off cam and other moving parts and relubed but cannot get it to go past drop unless it is on 78. Idler is not slipping, motor just stops at that point in cycle( lubed motor as well.

Any pointers?

Likely, if you hadn't taken changer completely apart, another part in spindle is seized, and, there are small levers that are likely frozen. You need to completely dismantle these. Even turntable bearing grease will be hare, as well as tone arm bearings, and, all shafts.

ah but I have, that is what is puzzling.
The platter bearing was jammed with dried grease. Guess I will dive further into it.......
must be some "hidden area" I can't get to.

These really need complete dismantling, and, cleanning.
Also, turntable must have good pull

So you wanna play changer-fixer?
I bet though, when you cleaned the cycle gear - while you had it off, you didn't check/clean/lube the roller protruding from the mech.
It should be FREE to revolve inside the cam gear track.
9 times out of ten people who service these BSRs don't check that tiny detail.
