The only record player I have setup now is this late 50s Zenith. I was going to fix it and then sell it but after I got it playing I just couldn't sell it. My wife had a fit and wanted in the living room . Its not a real old one like some of the ones mentioned but its really a neat little unit. I picked it up and the case is all original and nice. The amp looked like it was strait from the factory. But for whatever reason the record player unit was shot. It was all rusted up even though there was not any other water damage on this unit. I really liked it but it was too far gone. A buddy who strips old stereos had this unit that worked perfect. I played it a big part yesterday. I loaded about 4 or 5 LPs and let it play. This record on the video was one I found at goodwill. I got a few original Zenith test LPs from this time. Anyway here is a video of it.

Thanks. This was the way it played at first. It played fine for a while then it got to where it would just quit playing from the cartridge. I took it apart and replaced one of the main resistors that had overheated. It still had issues of dropping out. I replaced the cord from the record player chassis to the amp and it still acted up. Then I saw it. There was a small piece of solder that had fell from desoldering. It was on the RCA input jack the cable plugged into. I flipped it off and it worked perfect. I bet I played it for 3 or 4 hours yesterday and it worked great. No issues now.

The sleeve says he is Mike Wallace. I believe he is the one one of 60 minutes fame, at least it sounds like him. I have a record player similar to that philco. I need the arm and the transformer it plugs into. That is one of the beam of light units. I had those parts years ago from a old cabinet that had the radio missing. I gave them away to this old man who wanted to tinker with radios. I didn't think I would need such odd pieces. Boy was I wrong. I feel like a idiot for letting them go now. We live and learn I guess.

I can pick out people speaking in recordings or other media without seeing them with a great deal of accuracy. I thought that was Wallace, who did a lot of voice over work at that time. I see the BOL pieces and parts regularly on Ebay. It might be a good idea to check regularly 'til you find the price that's right.

I will keep an eye open on ebay. It is buried right now in my outside workshop. I can't get to it. I have stayed away from ebay but I think I need to use it more. It would be a way t sell off some junk I guess to make cash for more radio stuff.

I will have to dig the radio out. It is burried in my shop. I think it was the transformer that is mounted to the cabinet and the beam of light wires plug into . I also need at least the plastic head shell. I may need some of the rest of the pickup. Someone had been into it before I got it. I paid too much for it but I was trying to help out this young mother who was trying to pay off some medical bills. I will see what I think I need and try to post it soon.
