Well, the Philharmonic arrived safely this past Friday.

I had it shipped to where I work. The boss let me use his pickup to take it home (it was boxed and strapped to a small pallet). Once I arrived home, I opened the box, removed the speaker, lower and upper chassis, then took both chassis to the garage, the speaker upstairs, and the cabinet to the living room.

On Sunday, we cleaned the cabinet and rubbed it down with Howard's Restore-A-Finish. I then cleaned and polished the amp/power supply chassis, cleaned the speaker out, and reassembled the set.

It now sits patiently in the living room, waiting its turn for a complete electronic restoration - which I hope to accomplish over the winter.

No, that and the McMurdo are my Christmas presents to me! Very Happy

Regarding interior photo - Your wish is my command.

And here's the amp/power supply (lower chassis) on my cluttered workbench, after a good cleaning and polishing:

It has some rust spots, mainly around the 6L6G tube sockets, but still looks nice overall.

That is a beautiful pattern on the grille cloth. It almost hurts to see the snags. It's a great radio!

How do you get the chassis so bright? Do you plate or buff them!

Neither. The Scott chassis is chrome plated. I happened to have some Turtle Wax Chrome Polish and Rust Remover on hand, so that is what I used on the amp/power supply chassis. Number 7 Chrome Cleaner and Polish is much better, but I couldn't find any the last time I looked for it, so I settled for the Turtle Wax stuff. (Incidentally, the Turtle Wax product removed no rust...unlike the #7, which did remove some surface rust when I have used it on automotive chrome in the past.) I've been told there is a "blue" chrome polish that is better, but I have yet to try it.

Ron,

Those are some beautiful pieces of equipment. You're lucky the chrome is so nice. I know another local collector that showed me his Scott items. He indicated they used very thin chrome plating and it is subject to plating issues and corrosion.

That's o.k. I'm getting a Dumont, maybe this week end. Model RA 103C.
