Sounds like you already did. The seller probably didn't want to make the effort at packing that would have gotten it to you safely, with the insurance hassles to follow. Some folks don't think things through before starting. One small consolation is that you didn't acquire a expensive box of kindling.

Anybody remember this thread?? Well, I have some hopefully good news.
I found another dealer who parted one of these out, and, is selling parts on ebay.
I made a tentative deal on remains of the case, which with other bought parts, will take mine back to repairable.
It's almost complete, no back, no grill.
Bottom shelf is broken, and, cracked, but, very repairable.
Legs are still good.
She has checked with shipping costs with fed ex, and, they are not terrible.
She will start packing soon.
Might take longer for me to get it, but, by the end of April, it should be mine.
I'm back to being excited.........

Good for you Bill. I hope you get it intact. I have an old radio case I have had for almost 30 years hoping to find a chassis for it. I never have but I am still looking. It is a battery set but if I find a ac chassis that will work I will use that as well. Show us pictures if you get it.

I'm soooo happy for you. I remember after the last ordeal with seller and shipping issue it left you bit down in the dumps. So this is a done deal?

Tentatively. I agreed to shipping costs of up to about 160 dollars, and, a slight packing charge. We are also in agreement on the cost of the case. I also am bidding on some of the parts for it. It was a complete machine, and, she parted it out.A shame. No grill, though.
She told me today she'd throw the lid in on the deal, so, that made me happy. Mine is rough.
When I get it, I'll have pictures to share, but, this is likely to take awhile. I just hope I'm not jinxing it by talking about it...
When I get all the parts switched over, I'll show parts of my machine in the new case.. That will be down the road.
The case repairs come first. Must stabilize it.
My God. This has been a fourty plus year long project.

Well, I've got good, and, bad news on Edison. I won the back door. I'm being given the lid with the case.
Bad news is I lost on the other mechanical parts I need. This machine won't be getting done soon.
Oh, well. Maybe I'll junk my William And, Mary with the trashed cabinet.
It has about the same crank, and, reproducer, and, perhaps, turntable.
I'll have to get a new spring for mine.
Oh, well.
Waiting to hear on packing, and, shipping of parts, including the case.

More good news. First, I got an e mail from owner, and, he's packing it this week with hopes on shipping on following week.
Next good news. I took one of my other reproducers, and a record, and, put it on, and, wound 'er up. Actually, it plays pretty good. Better than I remembered.

And, my plating isn't that bad. Still have the wrong crank, but, other than that, even my bed plate isn't that bad. Not mint by any means, But, I've seen worse.
Motor needs cleanning, and, lubing. No surprise. The last time I rememberred cranking this old beastie up was about twenty five years ago.
It's filthy, but, no big deal to cleanning up........

Here are pictures of the cabinet I am getting........

You can see the dammage to the three sides of the bottom shelf. Otherwise, in good shape. I won the back door on ebay last night.

Sorry, Bill. You don't have the right motor parts. Thanks, anyway.
OH. I got an e mail from owner today. I'm to pay for the door today, minus shipping, which he removed, since it is being shipped on case.

Got another e mail on Friday. He has been very busy, out of state. Apparently, a big dealer. He hopes to pack, and, ship sometime next week.
I have looked at mine. I have correct turntable, brake, and, speed controls. I may steal escutcheon , and, crank from my Wm. and, Mary with the cut off legs.
I have an antique bronze Dance reproducer on it right now, but, plan on stealing bronze one from WM., and, Mary, and, putting dance rep. on that.

More good news on the cabinet. I got an e mail tonight from the owner. He packed it today, and, is getting ready to ship it. He was checking on my address, and, confirming that I want insurance, tracking, and, want it left on porch if I am not home.
I confirmed it. I think He's shipping it Tuesday... Then, I will be paying him............

Re: Edison Model A150 Diamond Disc machine The cabinet arrived.......

Post by Bill Cahill on Tue Mar 05, 2013 11:47 pm

I found out he left me a message on my voice mail last night to call him. For some reason, he was mixed up on my shipping address. Don't know why, but, I called him, and, confirmed it.

Just checked e mail, and, he sent me a message that it is shipped. I should receive it friday, or, monday. Wish me good luck. Sounds like he packed it well..
He described how he packed it, and, he did well.
He picked up a heavy duty appliance box, and, picked up some very heavy corner vert. strips for each corner.
He tied legs together, and, put styrofoam in middle. He then, put lid, and, back on. He put it in padded box, and, put strips in, and, put more styrofoam between the legs, and, the corner strips.
Let's hope it arrives safely.
