Airline model 74BR record player. Now, with pictures...

Post by Bill Cahill on Wed Feb 15, 2012 9:58 pm

Pickied up this 78 rmp record player. It was made by Belmont in 1947.
It's a wood cloth covered mannual 78 rpm player. It uses a 3 tube amplifier, and, utilizes an on-off switch for the motor for easy record change.
I'll get pictures soon. I already have it apart looking at it.
Looks very similar to my Belmont player with some differences, including tone arm.
The cartridge had been replaced some time in the past with the correct Astatic cartridge. Cord is rotted, so, I'm not plugging it in.
There are other issues, but, the guy said he played a record on it, and, it played very well, loud, and, clear.
Physically, it's in excellent condition. Even the leather carry handle looks nearly mint. This thing has had a good life.
I will take pictures of it.
I'm looking forward to getting this gem playing.
Bill Cahill Very Happy

And, here they are....

I'll post more as I start working more on it.
Today, I repaired an apparent factory problem. Turntable bearing was severely wobbling.
I also lubed motor bearings, idler wheel bearing, and, replaced shrunken motor mounting grommets.
