Duosonic Record Player
I picked up a portable Duosonic record player. Has a flip cartridge, 1 tube and no tone control. I put a new cord on it to try it out but I get humming and response from the needle. I need and new on-off vol control and I wil put new caps in it. It does not have a power transformer. There is a long blue resistor, it was getting hot.
Is this a replacement for a transformer, should I replace it?
It has an aluminum can on the chassis with electrolytic caps listed on it but how would I know which ones are which? there are solder tabs on the bottom side. There is also one sigle electrolytic cap inside of the chassis.

Re: Duosonic Record Player
Each electrolytic would be marked on the dan. If it uses terminals, a symbol would be used to show whidh section.
There is no power transformer in this.
Filters are open, thus, the hum. That isn't the vol. control.
Likely, the crystal cartridge is also bad.
Are you sure you want to fix this?

Re: Duosonic Record Player
Yes filters relate to the electrolyitc capacitors which need to be replaced at a minimum to get the player working again.
Also as Bill mentioned you wiil need a schematic diagram to trace where in the circuit each filter/cap belongs it wiil be clearly marked.
