Saved this Edison Standard model B phonograph

A couple of weeks back I rescued this little gem at the Orlando antique phonograph show.
The story goes that the dealer I bought it from recently purchased it from a lady. She said her husband found it in the barn recently. He thought it was just an old piece of junk, and, proceeded to start smashing it to bits.
When she found him, he had destroyed the lid, and, was starting on the machine.
She saw that he was destoying something important, and, stopped him.

The dealer had a good 2 min. recorder in the carriage to improve the looks.
When I got around to it there was the severely rusted crank inside the case with a broken handle. I removed it, and, put it on. It was partially wound up, and, wouldn't run.
I played with it some, and, wound it a little more. Just at that time, it started to slowly run on it's own. The dealer returned to his booth, and, was shocked I got it to run at all.
It was calling to me."Help me, help me, help me...", as the top parts were squeeking severely from being dry, and, severely rusted.
We talked, and, came to an agreement, and, I pruchased it.....
When I got it home, I did some cleaning, and, oiled it.
It played a 2 min. record with my C reproducer.
Well, I spent some time with it, and, removed motor from rusty top works. I put it on my good B standard bedplate, and, installed my original 2 4 minuite conversion kit.
I stripped case, and, did some prep work for refinishing, then, took entire thing off the bench to get back on more important projects.
When they are caught up, I'll finnish the cabinet work, make a drive belt, clean, and, lubricate the motor, and, put it back together. I purchased a replacement lid for it on ebay this week.

Unfortunately, I was unable to save the decal. What was left of the finnish was 95 percent dirty motor oil. This machine hadn't seen a good life.
I'm pleased I'm saving another important piece of history.

Bill, I've seen replacement decals for those machines on eBay.

Decals arrived this week. I am now working on the lid. Soon, I'll be back on case, and, installing the new decal.
When that is finnished, I'll be back on the motor.
I can also finnish doing the work on my Edison B home, now that I have a new decal.
