I`ve been around the radio scene a while and have collected several sets back when they were inexpensive, so I have about 10 small bakelite radios and ana 1950 RCA phono plus a few large radios. Which is the easiest to learn on? The small phono looks the simplest to my eye. I have also acumulated some of the equipment needed over the years.
Long story, I was feeling sick one day and left work before noon. When I got home I got some coffee and walked out in the backyard and noticed a trackhoe at a couple of old houses behind us that was to be demolished. I had wanted to look inside them and knew they must be getting ready for the trackhoe to be sitting there, so I walked over for a look. Most of the woodwork had been striped from the first house but I did get a set of tile for a fireplace after getting permission from the owner. ...

Hi Guys

Ok where to start, I got this radio mostly in 1 piece except the speaker was removed and antenna also.

I am not sure if the radio was working in the past but my best guess sez not well;). I am not sure how to wire my

speaker, it doesn't have any + or - marked on it. It has 2 wires 1 white and 1 black from the radio, I tried hooking

them up one way and have no buzz and very faint static. Then I tried hooking them the opposite way, and as the

radio warmed up it has a bad buzz with ...

My background is in Commercial HVAC industry, I am one of the best trouble shooters around and do all the wiring on both the low and high voltage controlls. Many of the times creating my own wiring diagrams since many controlls need to be intergrated into larger systems and the like.

Anyway,,,,

Anyhow, I have this mysterious problem with a radio I've been restoring. Its a Hoffman set from the 40's with typical all american 5 layout. The unit uses a transformer for primary power. When I brought the set home, all of the tubes lit but there was no audible sound. Only a very quiet hum, which sounded more like ...

I bought this little machine as a rusted out derelict in Orlando at the antique phonograph show a year ago, January. Ihad to replace a number of ruinned parts, and, converted it to 2-4 minuit.

Got correct reproducers for it, refinnished case, bought a horn for it this past January from the same phonograph show, and, put on an original crane.

The belt, crank, motor, cabinet, carriage, record dust brush, are original to machine.

This little machine plays like a champ!

It's rock steady, loud, ...

I managed to replace all, but, the repro lid, and, now have it playing. I still have to replace the worn 4 min. needle on the K reproducer, get a gear cover, get a new governor shaft, present one is bent, and, get an original lid for it. But, it is playing records. The crane is reproduction, but, the horn is original.

Philco model 111 voltage at electrolytic caps around 475 .Checked filter choke checks good resistors check good.

This will probaly put a strain on transformer &80 recitifier tube . Any way i can get voltage down in the line ?e

Checked everything for a short it calls for a 4.7uf@450 volts . Keeps blowing it . Put a 20mfd@450 doesn,t blow.

THIS IS ON TERMINAL 10 IN BIG CAP BLOCK. The other electrolytic cap from terminal 9 to 3 does fine.

Any ideals THANKS DENVER.

Tried various methods such as rubbing compound, then Mequires products(glaze, scratch remover, wax) Even wet sanded with 2000 grit first but still can't get shine back. Actually has a milky look to it on the top so I would say over the years it has been sitting in the sun. Also tried the Brasso on it as I read somewhere to try that. Now resistors, Well there are 40+

And no list for condensors, But a new to me Philco has caps and Conds listed.

Are they the same thing?

Do I need to replace all the resistors in the grundig too?

Ok, Here's one for you. This photo of an eye-tube came from my Truetone model D-692 (late version). As you can see the dark and light green colors are reversed. It works just fine though. It is nice and bright and very responsive it's just that the colors are reversed! What could cause this? I thought it might be the 1meg resistor in the eye-tube socket but would that cause this kind of color switch? It's just a plain old 6g5 eye-tube.
