Zenith T2222E

Post by DaveBN on Sat Apr 25, 2009 11:01 pm

We have an old Zenith television in the basement of my wife's childhood home. The only marking we see is the T2222E. Curious about how old it is and how "rare" it is. It measures 22" diagonal screen. We think it was purchased around 1950. Does that sound correct? Wife and SIL turned it on today and the screen lit up then went dark. Just curious of the history of this set. Thank you for any info. Hi there. I'm no expert on TV's (heck, I'm no expert on anything) my book lists the T2222E as a 21" from 1955. I just confirmed that at the following web site:
http://www.tvhistory.tv/1950-59-ZENITH.htm
I'm not sure about it's worth or rarity, maybe someone with more TV knowledge will chime in.

The problem is due to its' large size, shipping of these sets is difficult, so, except for certain sets, not much value in the collector's field.
It's probably worth restoring.
I'd advise against plugging it in again without first being properly having been gone through completely. It likely needs new power supply electrolytics, and, paper capacitors replaced, to start.

I personally have not had to work on those Zeniths but I have heard that the flybacks have had issues on them. Sounds like a fun project though.
